Sorry everyone, but this post features yet another of my home made images as I was unable to find a photo of an original Logger bar.
I forget which manufacturer made the Logger, but I seem to recall I quite enjoyed eating them as a kid. Â A Logger was little more than a bar of chocolate, but its distinguishing feature was that it was curved on the top and had marks in it that looked a bit like the bark of a tree, hence why it was called Logger.
I seem to recall it was available in more than one variety. Â I’m almost certain there were milk and dark varieties, and there may also have been a fruit and nut version too, but I can’t remember now.
The one thing I do remember about the Logger bar was the TV advert. Â It was in a similar vein to the well known Lumberjack song from Monty Python. Â A burly looking check shirted lumberjack is stood with a pretty young girl on his arm and they sing the following:-
Lumberjack: I truly love a Logger.
Girl: What, love one more than me?
Lumberjack: The Logger that I truly love has marks on, like a tree.

Made by Terry’s Of York, IIRC. Blue and red wrapper, just like their choc orange bars of today.

OMG! I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO FIND ANYONE ELSE WHO REMEMBERS LOGGER BARS FOR AGES, NONE OF MY FRIENDS REMEMBER THEM EITHER. THEY USED TO SELL THEM IN THE SPAR BY OUR HOUSE. I SEEM TO REMEMBER THE PLAIN CHOCOLATE ONES HAD A PURPLE WRAPPER AND THE MILK CHOCOLATE ONES WERE IN A BLUE WRAPPER. CAN’T EVEN FIND ANYTHING ON GOOGLE – ITS LIKE THEY NEVER EXISTED! BTW, THERE IS AN ONLINE PETITION TO BRING BACK NESTLE SECRET BARS AS WELL.

Rest assured Andy Logger bars definitely existed, but you’re right that nobody seems to remember them, hence the rather naff illustration I had to come up with!
Nestle Secret bars? That rings a bell… They had whirly strands of chocolate all over the top right. Don’t remember much else about them though.

Loggers were amazing. The milk chocolate ones were in blue wrappers but it was the fruit and nut ones in the purple one. I also cant find a pic anywhere anywhere. Can any one remember Cabana bars, they were chocolate with coconut and a cherry sauce in them. They were by Nestle i think. Check out you tube for 80s classic chocolate ads.

I USED TO LIVE FOR LOGGER CHOCOLATE BARS…THE MAN BEHIND THE BAR WHERE I PLAYED CRICKET AS A KID NICKNAMED ME LOGGER BECAUSE EVERY TIME HE SERVED ME I WOULD ORDER HALF A COKE AND A LOGGER…..HAPPY DAYS..

That’s one of the better ways of earning the nickname Logger. I can think of worse reasons to be called Logger.
It seems that Loggers are proving to be quite popular around here.

It’s surprising how all traces have been removed of the existence of some of these old sweets. Hopefully someone will upload a Logger ad to YouTube for us all to enjoy one day.

I’ve just discovered logger, it’s terry’s chocolate bar. With hunks and chunks of logger bite it’s better bar by bar or something like that. I remember the ad LoL

Hey, that rings a bell. Now, was that from the same advert I remember or another one?

I still have a chocolate logger bar, that I bought in
South London in the eighties.
I saved it when it became apparent
that Terry’s had stopped making it.
It has a brown wrapper with orange
stripes and “Logger” in purple.
It is a Fruit & Nut bar.
Stumbled on site, thought someone
might be interested!

That’s pretty cool. How on Earth have you managed to keep it safe all this time?
You’ve got something which now you’ve had it this long you’re never going to consume it (I assume), but if it were mine I would be insanely curious to see whether it still was edible after all these years.

I was the Logger man! I had a VHS of it somewhere. Now desperately trying to find it!

Wow Tim, that certainly trumps owning a (possibly now inedible) chocolate bar in the coolness stakes… Thanks for stopping by!

I know I’ve got it somewhere but it’s eluding me. However I have tracked down an old ad I did for Wall’s Feast here
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=18XOjs2Hkjk
and one for Guinness with Angus Deayton here

Memories!!
Cheers, Tim

I certainly remember the Wall’s Feast one Tim. Don’t remember the Guinness one though, or Angus Deayton ever having a beard like that…
